A Celebration on Campus: Mahtee at Wichita State

Graduation is such a milestone moment, it’s more than walking across a stage. It’s late nights of studying, friendships that turned into family, and the mix of nerves and excitement about what’s next. Getting to photograph Mahtee’s cap and gown session on the Wichita State University campus felt like stepping into all of that joy and anticipation at once.

We started the session near Corbin Education Center, designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, which instantly made the photos feel so WSU. You could tell this campus has been more than just classrooms for Mahtee, it’s been home for the last four years.

One of my favorite parts about cap and gown sessions is how the laughter and relief almost spill out of the photos. After so much hard work, there’s this freedom in the air, like every smile carries a little bit of “I actually did it!” Mahtee brought so much personality to the shoot, from tossing her cap at 2nd base on the baseball field to soaking in those last campus walks as a student.

As we wrapped up at Eck Stadium, I couldn’t help but think how these images aren’t just for today—they’ll be reminders years from now of everything that led to this moment.
