Some stories begin long before the first photo is ever taken.
This one started years ago—back when I was just a girl sharing pictures of my own kids, long before I thought of it as a “business.” In those early days, when I was still unsure of myself, this mama was quietly cheering me on from the sidelines. She knew what it was like to run a photography business herself, and she used her encouragement to nudge me forward in ways she probably didn’t even realize at the time.
So when the evening finally came for me to meet her—and her four almost-grown kids—face-to-face, it didn’t feel like walking into a client session. It felt like meeting family I’d known forever.
We met just outside Goddard, Kansas on a dirt road at sunset. The September light was pure magic—golden skies, soft tall grass swaying in the breeze, and a family who laughed together with the ease of people who have lived a lot of life side by side.
Yes, these photos are golden hour magic. But when I look at them, I don’t just see warm tones and glowing skies. I see grit. I see years of love stitched together in the ordinary days that raised these kids into who they are now. I see a mama who has poured herself out to raise her people well—and the deep honor of being invited to freeze this fleeting chapter for her.
