A 4th of July Family Session Filled With a Very Special Surprise | Sedgwick County Park

There’s something extra special about getting the whole family together.

Not just the little ones, but the grown-up grandkids. The grandparents. The generations that don’t always get to be in the same place at the same time.

And then there are the moments that make a family session something you’ll remember forever.

This 4th of July family session at Sedgwick County Park was one of those moments.

The evening was already full of everything you could hope for in a family session — laughter, grown grandchildren spending time with their grandparents, little moments between generations, and the kind of togetherness that makes you want to freeze time for just a little bit longer.

But there was a secret waiting to be shared.

A very tiny secret. ❤️

In the middle of celebrating their family, a baby announcement was made — and these grandparents were about to find out that they were going to become great-grandparents!

Talk about a 4th of July surprise!

There’s something so beautiful about watching a family grow through the generations. The people who once held their own children are now holding grandchildren, and suddenly there’s another little life on the way who will someday hear all the stories about the family who loved them before they were even born.

And getting to document the exact moment those words were shared?

That is the kind of photograph that becomes a family heirloom.

It isn't just a picture of people standing together at the park.

It's a picture of the moment everything changed.

The moment they found out there would be another little person added to the family.

The moment grandparents became great-grandparents.

The moment an ordinary 4th of July became part of their family history.

And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about family photography.

It’s not about having the perfect pose or getting everyone to look at the camera at exactly the same time.

It’s about documenting who your family is right now — because someday, this version of your family will only exist in photographs.

The adult grandkids will grow older. The little ones will become teenagers. Grandparents will become great-grandparents. And that sweet baby who was once a secret will eventually look back at these photographs and realize just how loved they were before they even arrived.

What an incredible gift to give the next generation.

A family session can be so much more than updated family pictures.

Sometimes it becomes a time capsule.

Sometimes it becomes a celebration.

And sometimes, it becomes the place where you announce one of the most exciting pieces of news your family has ever received.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate the 4th of July than surrounded by the people you love most — with a brand-new little life already bringing even more joy to the family.

Congratulations to these soon-to-be great-grandparents! ❤️

Your newest little family member is already so, so loved.

And I have a feeling this won't be the last time we photograph this beautiful family together.
