A Fresh 48 at Wesley Hospital | Wichita Newborn Photographer
There are certain moments in this job that I will never, ever take for granted.
Being invited into a hospital room during those first precious hours of a baby's life is one of them.
Before grandparents arrive. Before siblings meet the baby. Before the texts have all been answered and the world outside knows that this little person has arrived.
Sometimes, I get to walk into that quiet room and simply document it.
And I absolutely love it.
This Fresh 48 session at Wesley Hospital in Wichita was especially meaningful because this family started as clients and, somewhere along the way, became friends.
From Maternity Photos to a Fresh 48
This sweet mama originally found me online.
She took a chance on me to photograph her family and maternity portraits, and I remember thinking how special it is when someone finds your work, connects with it, and trusts you with something as important as their growing family.
Then she invited me to photograph her baby shower.
And finally came the call I was hoping for.
She had given birth to a beautiful baby boy!
I headed straight to Wesley Hospital, so excited to meet him and see this family again.
There is something so special about walking into a room where you already know the parents. I've photographed them before. I've heard their stories. I've watched their excitement grow throughout pregnancy.
And then suddenly, there he is.
Their baby.
Tiny. Perfect. Brand new.
The Beauty of Those First Hours
A Fresh 48 newborn session isn't about perfectly posed newborn photographs.
It's about remembering what it actually felt like to meet your baby.
The tiny fingers.
The sleepy stretches.
The way a brand-new dad looks at his son.
The way a new mama holds her baby just a little closer.
The hospital bracelets.
The blankets.
The quiet moments in between.
All of those little details that feel so ordinary in the moment but become incredibly precious when you look back years later.
As a Wichita newborn photographer, I feel incredibly privileged to be trusted with these memories.
Because I know I'm not just walking into a hospital room with a camera.
I'm walking into someone's story.
And that is something I never want to become ordinary to me.
When Clients Become Friends
One of the unexpected gifts of being a family photographer is that sometimes the relationship doesn't end when the gallery is delivered.
Sometimes you get to photograph the maternity session.
Then the baby shower.
Then the Fresh 48.
And somewhere along the way, you realize that these aren't just people who hired you.
They're your people.
They're becoming friends.
And honestly, that is one of the things I am most excited about in this season of my business.
I don't just want a list of clients.
I want a tribe.
Families I get to cheer for.
Families whose stories I get to watch unfold.
Families who invite me back into the big moments and the little ones, too.
I want to be the photographer who gets excited when I see your name pop up on my calendar because I already know your family and can't wait to see how everyone has grown.
That kind of connection means so much more to me than simply taking beautiful photographs.
Welcome to the World, Sweet Boy
To this sweet family—thank you.
Thank you for taking a chance on me when you found me online.
Thank you for trusting me with your family and maternity portraits.
Thank you for inviting me into your baby shower.
And thank you for making that excited phone call and letting me be one of the people who got to meet your sweet boy during those first hours of his life.
What an incredible privilege.
I hope you know how honored I am to document these moments for you.
And I hope this is only the beginning of many more chapters together.
If you're looking for a Wichita family photographer or Wichita newborn photographer to document your family's story—from maternity portraits to Fresh 48 newborn photos and all the seasons that follow—I would absolutely love to meet you.
Because the best part of this job isn't just getting to photograph beautiful families.
It's getting to know them.
It's getting to watch them grow.
And, if I'm really lucky, it's getting to call them friends.
