Sunrise Maternity Session | West Wichita, KS

There’s something sacred about sunrise. The world feels quiet, the air still holds a hint of night, and the light feels brand new — like hope is being born right in front of you.

This week, I had the privilege of photographing a sunrise maternity session in West Wichita, KS that left our entire group speechless. It wasn’t a styled shoot or a model call that felt posed or perfect — it was a real mama, standing in the cold with a brave smile and a baby on the way… her sixth little one.

You could feel her warmth even in the 30-degree air. She laughed through the shivers, tucked her hands under her belly for warmth, and somehow made “frozen sunrise” look like golden hour. Watching her was a reminder of what motherhood truly looks like — not always polished, but always beautiful.

For the photographers who joined me for this class, it wasn’t just a learning experience. It was an invitation to see maternity photography differently — to slow down, to find beauty in honesty, and to let connection be the most important composition in the frame.

As a Wichita maternity photographer, sessions like this remind me why I do what I do. Every mama carries a story, and every session is a chance to celebrate it. Whether it’s your first baby or your sixth, your body and your heart are doing sacred work — and that deserves to be seen.
