Waiting for Their Boy | A Wichita Kansas Maternity Session at the Sedgwick County Extension Office
Some sessions are beautiful because of the location.
Some are beautiful because of the light.
And then there are the sessions that are beautiful because of the people standing in front of your camera.
This was one of those.
Photographing my cousin Jordan and her sweet family wasn't just another session on my calendar, it was a gift. We've grown up together, shared so many memories over the years, and now I get the incredible privilege of documenting one of the sweetest seasons of her life.
After four beautiful daughters, their family is preparing to welcome their very first little boy.
Just writing those words makes me smile.
As I watched the girls laugh, twirl through the flowers, and gather around their mama's growing belly, I couldn't help but think about how much love is already waiting for this little guy. He's already surrounded by four built-in best friends who can't wait to meet him.
What a lucky little boy.
We met at one of my favorite hidden gems in Wichita, Kansas—the Sedgwick County Extension Office Gardens. During the summer, the flower gardens are absolutely breathtaking and create the most beautiful backdrop for maternity and family photography in Wichita. Everywhere you look, there are colorful blooms, winding pathways, and peaceful little corners that feel like they were made for slowing down and soaking in the moment.
As a Wichita, Kansas maternity photographer, I believe these sessions are about so much more than documenting a growing baby bump.
They're about preserving a family's story.
Because life is about to change.
Their family of six will soon become seven.
Four sisters will become four sisters and one very loved little brother.
These are the last photographs of this season before everything changes in the most beautiful way.
That's what makes maternity sessions so meaningful to me.
They're a pause.
A chance to hold onto what today looks like before tomorrow arrives.
Watching Jordan with her girls was one of my favorite parts of the evening. There was so much joy, so much laughter, and so much tenderness in the little in-between moments. Those are always the moments I'm drawn to—the hand squeezes, the giggles, the little glances that say more than words ever could.
As both a photographer and a mom, I know how quickly these seasons pass.
The little girls who once fit perfectly in your arms suddenly become young ladies.
The baby you're eagerly waiting to meet becomes the one running through the flower gardens.
Time has a way of moving much faster than we expect.
That's why photographs matter.
Not because they're perfect.
But because they help us remember.
Jordan and her family, thank you for trusting me to capture this season for you. It was such an honor to photograph people I love so dearly, and I already know your little boy is stepping into a family that will love him beyond measure.
I can't wait to meet him.
